So this week my family and i tried out a new fruit called granadilla. so we went to Fortinos to pick this up because it was the closest food store to my house and they have a wide variety of fruits that I would like to try out in the future. the reason why I chose this fruit was because they had no dragon fruit, it sucked that they did not have it but none the less their are plenty more fish in the sea so my sister and I decided on Granadilla or persimmons vanilla, we chose the granadilla.
before we get to my impressions I want to talk about the background of this fruit, so it is a type of passion fruit that comes from south america (specifically Columbia or Mexico) it is very common in south america however it is sold in many different countries like Australia,Venezuela and of course Canada. These little buggers are pretty expensive for what we saw, one each was for 2.50 for a fruit that is the size of a lemon that's a bit costly (in my opinion). now the fun part, my impressions of the fruit. honestly I thought it was going to suck but like the old saying don't judge a book by its cover, it tasted really good. the taste was a very slimy but sweet flavour, which I personally like. the seeds inside were very much like the seeds in a pomegranate very crunchy. So if I were to incorporate in this with something what would it be. i probably wouldn't cook it just because i want to keep the sweetness of the jelly itself, so i would add this on top of a pinapple cake for garnish or maybe add only the jelly inside a fruit muffin. something to do with dessert is what i would use.
